CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children & Young People’s Workforce (CYPW)

This is a new Qualification & Credit Frame (QCF) qualification designed to build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years.

The qualification covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas and is spilt into three pathways:

  • Early Learning and Childcare
  • Social Care
  • Learning and Development Support Services

It is also a must-have for all practitioners delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage.

*In addition it contains an optional unit ‘Understand how to set up a home based child care service’ which can be taken as a standalone unit for those who wish to become registered childminder.


It is for all those who wish to work as:

  • **Early Learning and Childcare
  • Pre-school worker 
  • Practitioner in a children’s centre
  • Practitioner in day nurseries, nursery schools or reception classes in primary schools
  • Registered childminders and nannies


Social Care Pathway:

  • Education support workers who visit families of pre-school children in their homes
  • Foster carers
  • Children and families social workers
  • Registered managers of children’s homes, plus deputy and assistant managers
  • Residential childcare workers
  • Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service advisers
  • Youth worker

Learning and Development Support Services Pathway:

  • Learning mentor


Progression Routes

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services or a Foundation Degree.

CACHE Level 3 Award in Induction to Playwork (QCF), Level 3 Certificate in Playwork (QCF) and Level 3 Diploma in Playwork (NVQ) (QCF)

This is a new Qualification & Credit Frame (QCF) qualification that provides in-depth information about the role of the Level 3 playworker when working with children and young people between the ages of 4 to16.

It provides an understanding of the management of play environments and the line management of other staff.  The Award and Certificate are mainly knowledge based, with a limited amount of practical application, whilst the Diploma covers the knowledge and skills needed when working un-supervised. It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 3 Playwork Apprenticeship.

It is for all those who wish to work as:

  • Playwork development officer
  • Adventure centre supervisor
  • Hospital playworker
  • Manager of any playwork provisions
